The I N T E R V A L O project emerged from an experience of time and space, and from unexpected encounters that took place while I was in the garden during the pandemic. During that period, my relationship with a garden I had begun caring for four years earlier changed definitively. I spent long hours immersed in its particular universe, exploring without a schedule, until my own rhythm gradually became attuned to the slow time of plants. I began to turn into a cyborg composed of my body, my thoughts and sensations, and my devices: computer, camera, magnifying glass, microscope, Wi-Fi, fiber optics, and undersea cable, through which I accessed telescopes, microscopes, and satellite stations around the world. The disconnection imposed by confinement paradoxically became a connection to remote places and scales.

Thus, I N T E R V A L O is about discovering stars at the bottom of a pond; the indescribable sound of Enceladus; dissolving the boundary between the ciliated paramecium and the Chlorella algae it carries within itself; imagining, through abstractions based on mathematical calculations, the mandalas traced in space by the trajectories of Earth and Mars around the Sun; and traveling across scales other than the human while a virus confined our entire species in 2020.
