“In Nordine's Trail, Blanca Botero traces the path of water through the Todra Valley. She observes contrasts, struggle, and symptoms. Satellite imaging technologies become useful tools for understanding the dynamics of bodies of water and detecting the presence of green, pink, and brown patches.

 

For generations, the inhabitants of the valley have developed ways of fertilizing the land, cultivating date palms, olives, alfalfa, and apricots. Their houses are made from the same earth as the surrounding terrain, blending into the landscape. In this geographical setting, humans have achieved a negotiated balance with water, the land, and the seasons. These inhabitants struggle to prevent the sand from claiming more territory.

 

Botero’s two installations, the geographies subjected to extreme conditions that she presents, and the forms of resistance and struggle taking place in the territory all put certainties under tension. Anthropogenic influence is not always detrimental to the planet; we are not only predators. We can also be pollinating agents”.
